How It Works
The Initial Consultation
Our first step will be a complimentary initial consultation. This can be done over the phone, in-person or online and generally takes 15 to 20 minutes. I will ask for basic contact information and an outline of what is leading you to seek support at this time. I may ask you some further details to help me determine if my services are suitable for you. You will also have the chance to ask me some questions. Toward the end of this meeting, we can set up your first appointment.

Before Your First AppointmentBefore you come to your first appointment, please take some time to read the information in the links below. This will give you an idea of some of the policies and philosophies I will be using. Reading the information allows you to come prepared with any questions you may have for me. It will also allow us to be more productive in our first session.
I will have copies of these for you at the first session |
Your First AppointmentAt your first appointment, we will discuss how therapy works and the ideas of confidentiality and privacy. I will encourage you to ask as many questions as you need to so that you can feel comfortable with me and the therapy process.
I will also be asking lots of questions as I get to know about you and your concerns. |
Setting GoalsAfter the first one or two appointments, we will work together to help you set your goals for therapy. This will allow us to stay focused on your needs and give you a way to track your progress. We will also discuss therapeutic approaches that may help you reach your goals. Don't worry, if your goals shift, we can always re-set them.
It is difficult to predict how long someone will need to reach their therapeutic goals until we have had a chance to speak in person. Some clients require as few as 6 sessions while others may require much longer. We will discuss this and work it out together. You are not locked into, nor are you limited to, a specific number of sessions. |
